FAQ

What is the Causality Brand Grant?
We offer both full (pro bono) and matching (partial, funding requirement of 50%) service grants to help nonprofits and good causes access our services at no or low cost. We help you build your “toolbox” of dynamic and sustainable communications elements and empower you to use them—elevating your brand and enhancing your ability to serve. Recent awards have ranged in value of services from $500 – $40,000. Please consider applying if your organization could benefit from the following:

  • brand assessment and development
  • identity design or logo refresh
  • marketing materials (brochures, newsletters, annual reports, appeals)
  • event branding (luncheons, galas, festivals)
  • campaign development (awareness, messaging, capital, membership)
  • WordPress web site design and build

What is a full grant?
A full (pro bono) grant provides creative/marketing services, to be performed by Causality, at no cost to the organization for the scope of services requested.

What is a matching grant?
A matching (partial, funding requirement of 50%) grant provides a portion of the value of creative/marketing services at no cost to the organization for the scope of services requested. The organization must be able to contribute or raise a sum equal to the value of the match to be provided by Causality.

Is it possible to secure other funding for the match? What help can you provide?
Absolutely. Many past matching grant recipients have leveraged the matching grant opportunity to approach donors, sponsors or funders to fund the match—allowing them to receive the full scope of services at no cost to their organization. We provide consultation and matching grant documentation to help your organization in approaching potential funders. Should your organization be interested in pursuing this as a means to receive branding/marketing/interactive services for your organization at no cost, we will be happy to assist.

What kinds of things does the brand grant provide?
The Causality Brand Grant is a service grant that encompasses the full range of brand marketing and creative services that we provide on a regular basis:

  • Brand assessment and development
  • Identity design or logo refresh
  • Name exploration/collaboration
  • Development of branded marketing materials
  • Targeted direct mail, appeals and membership campaigns
  • Fundraising communications and campaigns
  • WordPress web site design and development
  • Email marketing and social media integration
  • Event branding: galas, luncheons, festivals, etc.

What kinds of things does the brand grant NOT cover?
It does not cover out-of-pocket expenses such as printing, postage, hosting, etc. nor does it provide actual dollars to pay for services outside of Causality’s range of services.

If I am awarded a grant will I receive a check for the amount?
No, the Causality Brand Grant is a services grant meaning that the organization will receive the amount of the grant in services that our staff will perform under the scope of work of the awarded grant.

Can I apply for both types of grant at the same time?
Yes, you can apply for both a full and matching grant at the same time on the same application. Check both boxes and be sure to indicate the amount of for the matching grant. If your application is not chosen to receive a full grant it will automatically be considered for remaining matching grants.

Can I apply for a brand grant for more than one project?
Yes, you can apply for a brand grant for more than one project.

How many grants do you award?
Because we are a small firm and we never want to over promise and under deliver, we only award two full grants per cycle but we do award a minimum of three matching grants per cycle. Our goal is to make good branding accessible to as many organizations as possible—those who might otherwise not have the resources. As such we are committed to doing everything we can to NOT turn down a reasonable matching application.

How often do you have grant application cycles?
The Causality Brand Grant program is offered quarterly.

Do we have to be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit?
This opportunity is available for a broad range of organizations and causes that contribute to the greater good… including 501(c)(3) nonprofits, social enterprises, education, faith-based and other “mission-driven” organizations including start-up nonprofits who have not yet filed for 501(c)(3) status.

Is there a time frame or deadline to complete the work by?
Grant projects are expected to begin within 30 days of award notification and completed within 3 to 6 months of start date, depending on the scope of the project.

What if we think our project will take longer or what if we won’t be able to start the project by the start date?
We strive to be flexible and accessible and will work on a case-by-case basis to develop a workable project timeline.

What if I have an urgent need before your next grant award?
If you have an urgent need prior to award date, have an RFP you’d like to have considered under this grant program or are needing and alternate timeline, please contact us for assistance. We’ll handle these requests on a case-by-case basis.

How do we determine our funding amount for a matching grant request?
A matching grant is based on a mutually agreeable scope of work where the organization contributes or raises 50% of the value of the services. There are two ways to approach this:

1. We can have a conversation about what your needs are and then develop a scope of work proposal that estimates the full value of the services requested and defines the funding needed to secure the match.

or

2. You can specify your needs on the grant application and submit the desired budget you’d be able to contribute or raise. We would evaluate your request to consider your suggested match for the scope of work as requested, or we would offer an alternate scope of work (which you are free to accept or decline).

We work very hard to work within all budget levels to make our services accessible to organizations of all size.

How will I know if my “wish list” exceeds the matching grant amount? Will my application be disqualified?
No. We try very hard not to turn away any matching grant applicants. If we receive a matching grant request where the services requested exceed what we believe we can successfully provide for the match amount, we will offer an alternate scope of work for your consideration. Our goal is to work with you to develop a mutually agreeable scope of services and match amount.

What is the dollar amount/value of a brand grant?
There is no specific dollar amount for the full grant since it is a service grant that encompasses the full range of brand marketing and creative services that we provide on a regular basis. It does not cover out-of-pocket expenses such as printing, postage, hosting, etc. nor does it provide actual dollars to pay for services outside of Causality’s range of services. Our advisory committee chooses one applicant to receive the full scope of services they’ve applied for at no cost to them, much like a pro bono project. In the past the values (for full and matching) have ranged from $1,000 to $40,000.

How do I apply?

Please include your organization name in the file name of your application pdf and email to terri@thinkcausality.com.
